The Sunday Times were looking for an illustrator based in Bournemouth to create a piece that represents what it was like to live there for a student. From researching previous entries, I realised that several aspects of the seaside town had been overlooked, such as the classic cliff lifts that worked along the coast, and the Lower Gardens that connect to the beaches.
For my entry, I wanted to highlight these areas of Bournemouth as I believe they show a beauty that was, without hesitation, the Bournemouth I lived in. Many students would work retail and hospitality jobs during their education, so they would often walk through these places every day. I loved the process of this piece as it reminded me of my last three years within this town.
